MATCH DAY REPORT -Bristol Rugby vs Moseley

Bristol Rugby 29-8 Moseley

Bristol moved to the top of the GKIPA Championship with a 29-8 victory over Moseley at the Memorial Stadium.

In front of the biggest attendance of the season so far, Nicky Robinson and George Watkins grabbed two apiece, while Auguy Slowik touched down on his league debut as Bristol came from behind to claim the bonus point win.

It was the visitors who came out of the blocks quicker, as former Bristol winger Matt Williams wriggled his way through, only to be bundled into touch by Auguy Slowik.

Moseley continued to threaten down the outside channel as Buster Lawrence galloped downfield before being thwarted by a superb Slowik cover tackle.

The visitors eventually made their pressure pay, as Rhys Buckley rumbled over from a driving lineout for an unconverted score.

Bristol struggled to find any rhythm to their game during the opening exchanges, but did go close when Rhys Lawrence was held up over the whitewash on the half hour mark.

Andy Robinson’s men leveled proceedings courtesy of Nicky Robinson’s try. The fly half took advantage of Nick Koster’s superb break to touch down in the corner.

And, after Mike Powell was sent to the sin-bin, Andy Short was inches away from going over when he was freed into space by Robinson’s long pass.

Bristol took the lead on the stroke of half time as Nicky Robinson slipped through the midfield to touch down for his second of the afternoon, before converting to give his side a 12-5 advantage.

Moseley’s Will Hooley reduced the deficit with a penalty goal early in the second half, but the home side extended the lead with a third try soon after.

Leading scorer George Watkins waltzed through several defenders to cross for an unconverted try and give Bristol breathing space at 17-8.

And the prolific winger secured the bonus point when he cantered through a gaping hole on the hour mark – equaling Sean Marsden’s league record of 39 tries - to touch down in front of a jubilant Blackthorn End.

As Moseley tired, Auguy Slowik marked an impressive maiden league outing with a try, collecting Nicky Robinson’s pass to cross the whitewash and seal the win.
