MATCH DAY REPORT -Aberavon vs Bristol Rugby

Bristol Rugby 78-0 Aberavon RFC

Bristol Rugby stormed to a record-breaking 0-78 victory over Aberavon in Pool Five of the B&I Cup on Tuesday.

Bristol Rugby stormed to a record-breaking 0-78 victory over Aberavon in Pool Five of the B&I Cup on Tuesday.

Bristol scored twelve tries at the Talbot Athletic Ground to record the Club’s heaviest ever win in Cup history.

Mitch Eadie plundered a hat-trick, while Auguy Slowik, Luke Eves, Charlie Amesbury, George Watkins, Mark Cooke, Ruki Tipuna, Steve Uren, Andy Short and Nick Koster all crossed in a one-sided affair.

Nicky Robinson kicked nine conversions – the highest by a Bristol player in a Cup fixture – surpassing Tristan Roberts’ previous record of eight.

In the opening six minutes, Bristol raced into a 0-14 lead, crossing for two tries in quick succession. First, Auguy Slowik wriggled his way over from close range; before Nick Koster grabbed his first try for the Club, racing in from forty metres following a slick counter-attack.

And the visitors notched a third score soon after as Mitch Eadie cantered through a gaping hole in the red and black defence to touch down for a third, converted by Nicky Robinson.

The bonus point was sealed by the eleventh minute when skipper Ruki Tipuna jinked across the whitewash for a sublime converted try.

And Luke Eves extended the advantage to 0-35 when he was on hand to power over for Bristol’s fifth converted try of the evening.

Late in the first half, Mark Cooke was inches away from dabbing down Nicky Robinson’s grubber kick, but Aberavon defended manfully to hold out until the break.

But, mere moments after the restart, Mitch Eadie galloped in under the posts for his second try, while Robinson struck the conversion.

The back rower sealed his hat-trick as Bristol continued to run riot, waltzing past an Aberavon defender to touch down for a converted score.

After replacement Andrew Clatworthy was sin-binned for persistent infringement, Cardiff Metropolitan University student Mark Cooke and replacement Steve Uren crossed for their first competitive tries.

In a dominant second half display, George Watkins was next to add his name to the scoresheet, outpacing his opposite number to touch down in the corner.

Bristol made it 0-73 when Charlie Amesbury showed blistering acceleration to thunder over on the hour mark, although Robinson saw his conversion ricochet off the upright.

And Andy Short finished off the rout when the replacement stretched across for a twelfth try – which was unconverted- late on.
