MATCH DAY REPORT -Moseley vs Bristol Rugby

Bristol Rugby 33-24 Moseley

Bristol Rugby secured a hard-fought 33-24 win over Moseley to record a first league win at Billesley Common.

The visitors crossed for five tries as Andy Short (2), Jack Wallace, Mark Sorenson and Adam Hughes all went over on Saturday.

Moseley launched a second half fightback but Bristol held firm to notch an eleventh straight win in the Greene King IPA Championship.

Bristol raced into a four-minute lead when Andy Short outpaced his opposite number to dab down Nicky Robinson’s intelligent grubber kick.

Robinson struck the post with his conversion attempt, before Bristol capitalized on a fine start to the game, stretching further ahead soon after.

Jack Wallace latched onto Ross Rennie’s looping pass to have the easiest of tasks of touching down in the corner for a converted score.

And the visitors went 0-19 up inside the opening quarter hour as Mark Sorenson went over for his first competitive try in Bristol colours. The skipper stretched over the whitewash after patient build-up from the Bristol backline, while Robinson slotted the extras.

Bristol continued to run riot in a one-sided first half, as Andy Short crossed for his second – and his team’s fourth – of the evening. In one of the tries of the season, the winger touched down following Nicky Robinson’s stunning solo break and kick through.

But Moseley found a route back into the game before the break when Matt Williams showed electric pace to accelerate over from sixty metres for a sublime individual effort, converted by Ollie Thomas.

Thomas missed a penalty goal opportunity after the interval, but made amends shortly after with a three-pointer in front of the posts.

Andy Robinson’s men engineered some breathing space when Adam Hughes  took advantage of an overlap to go in under the posts for a try, while Robinson converted.

After Buster Lawrence and Ben Mosses were yellow-carded in a fifteen minute spell, Olly Robinson crashed over for a converted try, reducing the deficit to 17-33 with less than ten minutes to play.

And the home side added another when Tom Warren burrowed his way across the whitewash after a powerful driving lineout. Thomas struck the conversion to set up a nailbiting finale, but Bristol held on to end a four-game winless run at Billesley Common.
