MATCH DAY REPORT -Bedford Blues vs Bristol Rugby

Bristol Rugby 32-19 Bedford Blues

Bristol Rugby made it four wins in a row in the Greene King IPA Championship, overcoming Bedford 32-19 on Saturday.

Andy Robinson’s men scored six tries at Goldington Road as George Watkins (2), Luke Eves, Nick Koster, Kyle Traynor and Ben Mosses all touched down.

Bristol went in front on the ten-minute mark, as George Watkins capitalized on Ben Glynn’s fine break to race in for an unconverted score.

The winger went over in the corner for his fortieth try in Bristol colours, becoming the Club’s all-time record try-scorer in league games.

And the visitors doubled their advantage moments later when Nick Koster stormed clear before feeding Luke Eves to cross the whitewash, although Nicky Robinson couldn’t add the conversion.

Bedford were reduced to fourteen men when Brendan Burke saw yellow for preventing the release of the ball and, with the numerical advantage, Nick Koster bundled his way over for a third.

With the Blues’ defence stretched, the impressive flanker fended off the attentions of two defenders to dab down for an unconverted try.

But Bedford reduced the deficit when Eoin Sherriff stretched over after a spell of pressure, while Jake Sharp struck the conversion.

And the home side fought back to within a single point on the stroke of half time as Aaron Morris was quickest to react to a loose ball, hacking forward and diving over for a converted try.

Bedford could have turned the game on its head soon after the interval, but Jake Sharp saw his long-range penalty attempt fade short of the target.

The Blues did go in front, however, when Aaron Morris was on hand from close range to score his second of the afternoon.

In a topsy-turvy second half, Kyle Traynor rumbled over from a driving lineout to edge Bristol ahead, before Andy Short was yellow-carded after being penalized by referee Darren Gamage for an adjudged dangerous tackle.

Mitch Eadie came within a yard of extending Bristol’s lead further, before George Watkins gave the visitors breathing space with his second try – a sublime finish from Adrian Jarvis’ offload.

And Ben Mosses sealed the hard-fought victory on the stroke of full-time, crashing through the Bedford defence to touch down for an unconverted try.
