Tom Slater joined Bristol from Cardiff Blues at the beginning of the 2011/12 season. The 24-year old scrum half Slater joined Cardiff from Coventry at the beginning of the 2009/10 season.

He represented Wales in the IRB Sevens World Series in 2009 and was one of the youngest players ever to be selected for the Barbarians when he was called up to the Baa-Baas in March 2008. Slater has made 13 first-team appearances for Cardiff during the 2010/11 season, featuring twice for the Blues in the Heineken Cup against Edinburgh and Castres.
