Bristol Rugby pride themselves in the open and friendly environment of the camps as it is the participants that make the camps as enjoyable as they are.

BRISTOL RUGBY'S PREMIERSHIP ACADEMY CAMPS: COURSE CONTENT
|
The Core Skills:
Regardless of whether you are a prop or winger, when you’re in open or phase play there is an armoury of core skills that will help you to get the most out of every opportunity.
The triangulate pass, the rip and roll skill, the drive and place skill, the long present skill and the 360 degree spin and roll skill are amongst the skills we can cover and perfect.
Many club players who have covered similar skills in the past are surprised by their level of improvement after perfecting the fine detail in each skill.
We use all the latest Premiership techniques in our camps and that is what sets the Bristol Rugby Academy Camps apart from the rest!
Defensive Techniques:
There is a common misconception that to become ‘a good tackler’ you must do a lot of tackling. NOT TRUE. To become an effective tackler you must learn the finer points of how to tackle.
Body and foot position, contact areas, leg drive and the ‘hook and handle’ are but a few of the individual skills you will examine on the camp.
Every player on the camp so far has become a better tackler after these sessions.
Learn about the fundaments of defensive alignment, such as line shape and speed. Learn cutting edge techniques of the tackle, tackle area and defensive organizations.
Handling Skills & Games:
It always amazes our coaches just how many talented players who attend the academy have not been taught the fundaments of how to pass a rugby ball. The modern game demands that all players have the ability to deliver a variety of passes of either hand.
The skill is in identifying which player to pass to, whether the pass is on and only then deciding which pass is appropriate; all in the blink of an eye.
Full time Guinness Premiership professionals regularly spend long periods of time perfecting their pass technique so that when it comes to that one match winning opportunity, you’ve got the best possible chance of making that pass.
Speed, Agility & Quickness Skills, Drills & Assault Course:
These days rugby players are athletes, and if you’re serious about improving your game, you will need SAQ in your locker.
|
|
If you’re a prop trying to make big hits round the ruck/maul area, our agility work will help you get your feet into position earlier so attackers go back and stay back.
If you’re a centre, our acceleration drill will help you get off the mark and get over the gain line.
After the SAQ skills and drills session, you will get the chance to test your skills on Hunty’s now infamous ‘Assault Course of Doom’. Bringing Speed, Agility and Quickness into your regular routine will help you to implement all the skills you learn on this course.
|
Unit Skills:
Our coaches can cover all areas of the game; whether you want technical or tactical input we can help you perfect the finer skills that will give you that extra something in your position from ex and current professional players.
Kicking Skills, Drills & Games:
Whether kicking is an essential part of your game, or just a bit of fun, our kicking clinics prove to be one of the favourite sessions of the course.
On the course you we will help improve your technique by examining the fundaments of the kicking stroke. Perfecting such aspects as the hand position, ball drop and ball striking will help you to eradicate the poor kicks that let you down.
|
|
Educational Worksheets on Effective Lifestyle Management:
All professional players know how to look after themselves on and off the field, the earlier you learn the basics, the harder will be able to train with more returns. Learn what to eat and when, how to train and when to rest, and much much more.
Design & Coach Your Own Session:
On the longer 4 or 5 day courses we give the participants the chance to design, setup and deliver their own sessions on the last morning of the camp.
|
These ‘player driven’ sessions are unsurprisingly some of the most popular of the week as the participants get the chance to share some of their own ideas and drills with the rest of the camp and for some reason they seem to really enjoy telling the coaches how to coach – sound familiar?
Conditioned Touch, TAG, Grab and Contact Games:
Bristol never underestimate the importance of fun in our courses. We always give our participants the chance to put what they have leant each day into practice enjoyable but competitive conditioned games.
Depending on the age range and ability of the groups, these games cover all degrees of contact. On most camps we look to increase the levels of contact as their skills and competency improves throughout the week.
MEET BRISTOL RUGBY’S TOP PROFESSIONALS!!!
Camp participants benefit from having daily lunchtime Q&A visits from Bristol’s TOP professionals.
Bristol Rugby appreciate the importance of its Premiership Rugby Academy and have ensured their top professionals will attended every lunchtime for the ever amusing Question and Answer session – first XV training permitting, of course!!
The Kick, Pass, Run Challenge (KPRC):
The ever popular KPRC give players a chance to test their skills against their course mates using a challenge that is used at all Premiership camps throughout all Premiership clubs.
Participants must Pass a ball through targets of differing sizes; Kick a ball on to a ‘bullseye’ target; and Run round an agility course on the watch.
Each part of the KPRC is scored and recorded with the highest scoring participant in each age group (9 yrs and under, 10-13yrs and 14-18yrs) over the entire year of camps, going to TWICKENHAM to perform the KPRC on GUINNESS PREMIERSHIP FINAL DAY!
It is a massive prize that you will never forget, as any of the former winners will testify.
