BRISTOL Academy Under-18s suffered a 29-43 defeat at the hands of their Harlequins counterparts at Clifton RFC on Tuesday.

The home side were competitive throughout the contest, and ran in five tries with centre Chay Smith leading the way with a brace.

Flanker Sam Boyland, centre Lucas Slowik and wing Josh Daly also touched down, with fly-half Julian Mogg slotting two conversions.

Bristol's free-flowing style asked plenty of questions of the Quins defence, and the home side were unlucky not to pick up a few more scores along the way.

But Bristol struggled to contain the visitors driving line-out, and a collective lapse in concentration late in the second-half allowed Quins three late tries, which gave the result line a one-sided look.

Bristol forwards coach Kevin Moggridge said: "When you play a high-risk, high-reward style as we do, you're going to make a few mistakes along the way - this is part of their development, and the lads will learn from their mistakes.

"We've got a bit of work to do in defence and around the set-piece, but I thought our attacking intent was good, and we took most of the chances that came out way."
