Cooke Pens Academy Deal
Centre to join ahead of new season
Mark Cooke has penned a one-year deal to join Bristol Rugby Academy ahead of the 2014/15 campaign.
“Mark is a very talented young player who is equally comfortable at ten or twelve"
The Cardiff Metropolitan student agrees his first professional contract after impressing for the Club in United and B&I Cup fixtures.
Cooke made his first team debut in 2011, facing Cornish Pirates in the B&I Cup.
The talented centre – who has represented England Students this year – scored in the 78-0 defeat of Aberavon in December.
“We’re pleased that Mark has decided to join us for next season,” Academy Manager Mike Hall told bristolrugby.co.uk.
“He has worked extremely hard over his three years at University - both on his physical development and his technical and tactical skills.
“Mark is a very talented young player who is equally comfortable at ten or twelve and will be a valuable addition to our Academy squad.
“He showed he has the temperament to play at a high level and we look forward to seeing Mark develop his game even further next season.”
Cooke has made two first team appearances this season, as well as representing Bristol United versus Cambridge University and Worcester Cavaliers.
He added: “I’m absolutely delighted to sign my first contract – I’m really looking forward to working with the coaches and other players.
“The last three years at Cardiff Met was a great platform and has really helped me develop.
“I am really looking forward to learning as much as I can over the next year to help progress my game and Bristol is a great club to do it at."
