Academy U18s Set For Quins Clash
Bristol play Quins on Tuesday at Clifton RFC
Bristol Academy U18s face a stiff opening test in the opening fixture of the RFU Academy competition, when Harlequins U18s visit Clifton RFC on Tuesday (1.30pm KO).
"I have been delighted with the attitude and application shown by the players over the couple of sessions"
"Keith Leaker (Backs & Attack), Kev Moggridge (Set Piece) and I have been delighted with the attitude and application shown by the players over the couple of sessions we have had,” said Academy Manager Mike Hall.
"It is always difficult at this time of year, the players have college and club commitments throughout this term, so we get very limited time together as a group to prepare, but chatting to the Quins Academy coaches they are in exactly the same position as us.
“We’re trying a few new coaching ideas with this group about playing without too much structure and the guys are buying into it really well, as with all new things, it takes time to become comfortable with it.
"The same group of players are involved who performed so well in the pre-season festival at Sandbach RFC, so we have a good base to build on.
“The purpose of the Academy U18s fixtures is to give the best players in each Academy area an opportunity to play against the best from other areas.
"It also gives us as Academy coaches an opportunity to see the performance levels of our players outside the comfort of their club environments.”
