Talented Quartet Pen Academy Deals
Carpenter, Genge, Hughes and Slowik sign deals
Four players will sign professional contracts with the Bristol Rugby Academy ahead of the 2013/14 campaign.
Nick Carpenter (SGS Filton), Auguy Slowik (SGS Filton), Jack Hughes (SGS Filton) and Ellis Genge (Hartpury) all pen deals with the Club after excelling in the Elite Player Development Programme (EPDG).
Having represented England U17, Ellis Genge was the stand out performer as Hartpury captured the AASE national title in April.
“Ellis has developed into a real leader over the past twelve months, leading Hartpury to victory in the AASE competition,” said Academy Manager Mike Hall.
“After consultation with National Academy coaches Ian Peel and Pete Walton, we have decided to move Ellis’ position from number 8 to prop.
“He has already worked with Scrum Coach Matt Ferguson, who has been very impressed with how he is taking to his new position.
“If he can carry his key attributes of powerful ball carrying and destructive tackling into the front row, he will be a formidable opponent.”
One of the EPDG’S brightest talents, Nick Carpenter is a regular at England U18 and U19 level, helping his country to the FIRA title in 2012.
Hall said: “Nick has continued his development this season with England U18 and U19s. He’s a well-rounded rugby player with good variety to his passing game.
“Nick carries well into contact, has excellent game understanding and is a capable kicker. He really fits the mould of centre that Andy [Robinson] is looking for.”
Full back Jack Hughes has enjoyed a superb season in Filton colours, helping the Bristol apprentices to the AASE semi-final and a Sedbergh Tens title.
“Jack has had an outstanding season with Filton in the AASE League. He’s an elusive runner and has scored some excellent tries,” said Hall.
“He’s developed good balance to his play and has a good kicking game to compliment his threatening attacking capabilities.”
Auguy Slowik is another exciting product of SGS Filton College. Brother of England U18 Lucas, the pacy winger has been a regular fixture for Dings in National Two South.
Hall added: “Auguy is a very exciting prospect. He’s a consistent performer who has shown his devastating speed and eye for the try-line.
“Auguy has impressed us for Dings – he’s performed extremely well throughout the season and deserves this opportunity.”
