Centre praises performance after four-try win over Northampton

Nick Carpenter hailed the performance of his teammates after Bristol Academy U18s saw off Northampton Saints U18s 28-17 at Clifton RFC on Monday.

The Filton centre was a constant threat in attack as the hosts plundered four tries courtesy of Jacob Unwin (2), Ben Foley and Alex Haynes.

“We’re delighted with the win,” said the 17 year-old. “We only had a couple of training sessions together so to come out and perform the way we did was pleasing.

“Northampton are a strong, experienced side and we knew that we would have to be firing on all cylinders to have a chance against them.

“The boys worked incredibly hard and created a number of chances. We talked before the game about playing with confidence and enjoying our rugby – I think we showed that on Monday.”

And Carpenter, who recently represented England U18s in the FIRA/AER Tournament win in Madrid earlier this month, admitted it was an enjoyable game to be involved in.

“There’s a lot of pride in pulling on the Bristol shirt,” he added. “Everybody involved today was pleased to represent the Club.

“We tried to run with the ball as much as possible and I think we threatened them out wide. We’re really pleased with the performance and result.”
