Carpenter Try Helps England To Win
England U18s 58-8 Georgia U18s
Bristol EDPG Gold member Nick Carpenter notched a try as England U18s stormed to a 58-8 victory over Georgia in the FIRA/AER tournament opener.
The Filton College product crossed the whitewash during a dominant second half, capitalising on a loose Georgian kick to run in for one of England’s eight tries.
Scrum half Callum Braley, another member of the EPDG Gold group, was an unused replacement in Madrid.
Head Coach John Fletcher said: “We’re pleased with the result, but more pleased with the performance. We spoke about stepping it up from our last game and I think we did that today.
“Our forwards did well, the set-piece was good and we just did the basics right which is what you have to do.
“We moved the ball around and created options – lots of people got their hands on the ball and demonstrated what good players they are.”
England also posted tries through Zach Kibirige, Nathan Earle, Tom Stephenson and Javiah Pohe, while Joel Conlon grabbed a hat-trick and fly half Sam Olver kicked 18 points.
