14th March 2012 published by Tom Tainton

Filton College captured the North of England National Sevens trophy at Fylde RFC last weekend. The Bristol Rugby apprentices won eight successive games on their way to the final, conceding just five points in the process.

Seven members of the squad are part of Bristol’s EPDG group including skipper Sam Hanks, Nick Carpenter, Auguy Slowik, Jacob Unwin, Jack Hughes, Monty Reed and Connor Phillips.

Filton cruised through the group stages, beating Ashville College 36-0, Kirkham 33-0 and Woodhouse Grove 33-0.

In the second round, Filton saw off Ampleforth 22-0 before a hard-fought 24-5 victory over Coleg Llandrilo in the quarter-final.

George Tavner’s side secured a comfortable 29-0 win over Adams College in the semi-finals, setting up a final against Kirkham.

The final was a much closer affair than the group stage clash, but Filton overcame their Lancashire opponents 14-0 to deservedly win the competition.
