Rhys Lawrence Signs From Scarlets
Hooker joins ahead of 2011/12 campaign
Bristol Rugby have bolstered their front row options with the signing of former Wales U20 Rhys Lawrence from Llanelli Scarlets.
The London-born hooker was raised in Swansea and joined the Scarlets in 2009. Under the tutelage of Scarlets captain and British Lion Matthew Rees, Lawrence is currently learning his trade with Llanelli.
Head Coach Liam Middleton commented: “Rhys fits the profile of the hooker and the sort of character that I'm looking for in next year’s squad. I'm impressed by his determination; he has a solid set piece and dynamic carrying with some good touches in attack. More-so he has regularly been a top defender on the Scarlets stats sheet, which is very important."
The 22-year old has made fifty appearances for Llanelli since 2009, as well as featuring ten times this season for the Scarlets, including three starts in the Magners League.
Lawrence said: “I am very excited to be joining Bristol and I’m looking forward to playing my rugby at the Memorial Stadium. Liam Middleton is very ambitious and has a great vision for the club. I cannot wait to be a part of it."
